Leading actress Jun Ji-hyun is joining a campaign to galvanize the market for traditional Korean wine and liquor.

Kooksoondang, a Korean brewery specializing in traditional wine and liquor, said Monday that it signed a one-year contract with Jun. She will serve as a model in ads promoting the traditional wines the company sells, starting with its flagship rice wine Baekseju from the middle of the month.

Jun starred in the Korean box office hit “My Sassy Girl,” with her character drinking alcohol heavily and fainting, but this is the first time she will promote alcoholic beverages. Since her debut in 1997, she has been in TV commercials for printers, cosmetics, shampoo, refrigerators and coffee.

The brewery said, “Actress Jun Ji-hyun’s affection for traditional wine and liquor was the decisive factor in our decision to conclude the contract with her,” adding “We hope that her urban and innocent image will help revive the traditional wine market, which has been in the doldrums.”
