Lottery Admissions

An applicant yesterday puts in a ping pong ball into a lottery machine in a drawing for selecting students for admission at Hangaram High School in Seoul’s Yangcheon district. The school will set sail as a private autonomous high school next year. Middle school students above the top 50 percentile in academic performance can apply to such a high school via lottery. Hangaram recorded the highest competitive ratio of 9.1:1 among 13 autonomous high schools in Seoul that closed applications last week.
