On the afternoon of December 25, in Yamagata Prefecture, 290 kilometers north of Tokyo, a bullet train was derailed by strong gust of wind and crashed into a building. Four passengers were killed and 33 were seriously injured. Rescue workers are at the scene of the wreckage. Some say that crosswinds caused by horizontal wind gusts up to 20 meters per second clashed with vertical winds when the train was passing the bridge to cause the accident.
