Government to Dismiss Executives Who Fail Performance Test

It was reported on June 26 that Cheong Wa Dae will conduct individual performance tests for presidents and auditors of over 50 major public institutions by the end of July and government agencies and dismiss problematic staff regardless of their tenure (three years).

Cheong Wa Dae will also carry out tests for heads and auditors of over 50 additional institutions in the second half of this year.

After being handed the audit reports of major public and government institutions late last month, the presidential senior secretary office for civil affairs has already concluded individual evaluations of 47 institutions.

“We adopted the performance evaluation system for presidents, auditors and other executives of public institutions in order to dispel the suspicion that outsiders with connections are appointed to high posts,” said a core official of Cheong Wa Dae and continued, “individual evaluations are being made for presidents of concerned public institutions at present.”

The official said, “The review will examine three criteria, including job performance, morality, and adaptability, and heads and auditors with bad evaluation results will be dealt with correspondingly after the outcome of the evaluations is disclosed in late July.”

Cheong Wa Dae has decided to dismiss presidents and auditors with bad reviews irrespective of their term of office while considering presidents with good evaluation candidates for relevant ministers or vice ministers. At the same time, the presidential office plans to appoint auditors with excellent reviews to presidential posts of public institutions.
