U.S. Army Deserter Jenkins Meets His Mother After 40 Years

On June 14, Charles Jenkins (right), who deserted to North Korea while serving as a member of the U.S. Forces Korea 40 years ago, met his 91-year-old mother, Patty Casper (middle) at his sister’s home in Weldon, North Carolina. Mrs. Casper, who was staying at a nursing home, came to her daughter’s home in order to meet her son’s family. On the left side is Jenkins’ Japanese wife Hitomi Soga, whom Jenkins married in North Korea.
