A foreigner was named as the president of a university for the first time in Korean history. Professor Robert Laughlin from Stanford University, a Nobel Prize Laureate in Physics, was inaugurated as the president of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) on July 14. President Laughlin said, “I am as happy as I was when I received the Nobel Prize. I feel like a king,” before his inauguration at the welcoming event held in front of the main building of the university.
