As the world's sixth largest auto parts supplier, Hyundai Mobis boasts over 3.6 trillion won dollars of annual sales. Nevertheless, their goal is to become the "real" global comprehensive auto parts supplier. This is due to the fact that Mobis has been expanding in size under the umbrella of Hyundai Motor Group.
"It is no exaggeration to say that we are all in to penetrate Electric Vehicle (EV) makers including Tesla and Faraday Future. Our plan is to prepare for the long term by signing contracts to supply in system units, not in small parts," said a Mobis North America official. It was known that managers of some EV makers met with Mobis engineers frequently on a weekly basis, and were highly interested in brake system (ESC, ABS, MDPS, etc.) and lamp system (intelligent head and rear lamps), which Mobis holds competitive edge in.
At the current time, Mobis North America secured around 150 local R&D engineers to develop autonomous and electric driving technologies. Furthermore, the company plans to focus on developing advanced technology on autonomous driving by hiring more researchers every year. Instead of focusing solely on the convenience of autonomous driving technology, Mobis aims to develop technologies, which can instantly be applied to prevent accidents by prioritizing safety.
