Samsung Tesco Homeplus will provide a class in which parents and children “experience nature through ecology.” Participants will have a chance to visit cultural villages in Anseong City, Gyeonggi-do, their galleries and parks, and to make their own pottery. Homeplus has also prepared a class to publish newspapers of Goguryeo history and to publish books including traditional tales which elementary school students should know. These events will take place in 47 stores nationwide.

Shinsegae Emart in Wolgye offers a traditional program hosted by the company Mindeule. Lower school students will learn how to make traditional masks, and how to perform Korean dances and traditional plays.

Lotte Mart in Guro and Ansan will have a program which gives students an opportunity to thresh rice themselves. Hyundai department store in Cheonho is planning a class “revealing the secrets of Baekje,” to visit the mud castles of Mongchon and Pungnab. There is another program to visit the National Science Museum, a place to excavate dinosaur fossils, and a visit to the Daedeok Science Village.

I-Park department store provides “a project to master the National Museum of Korea” in which students visit the museum four times.

Cooking and dancing-

Vacation also means a time to enjoy various hobbies which students cannot pursue while in school.

Cooking lessons are recommended for children who like to cook.

Sampyo will offer “a lesson in cooking with soybean paste” in which participants can make dishes such as rice balls and pork cutlets with soybean paste in January for families with elementary school–aged children.

Vips, a family restaurant, targets kindergarteners and offers a class on how to make cookies and to learn restaurant etiquette. Reservations for groups of 10 or more can be made by phone.

The Lotte Department Store in Gangnam provides an English cooking class featuring an American patissiere chef on December 23. Space is limited to 10 families and registration will be open from December 15-20. Homeplus will offer cookie and cake making classes in its stores nationwide.

Other low cost hobby lessons for children are available. Aekyung Department Store in Suwon is preparing a “children’s drum class” and a “children’s hip hop jazz dance class.” Hyundae Department Store in Shinchon is offering a “my own magic class,” and Homeplus is offering a “Harry Potter magic class” and “kids’ belly dancing class.”
