With the U.S. weighing sanctions against North Korea as an option, Japan and Australia officially put financial sanctions into effect Tuesday.

The Japanese government held a cabinet meeting and decided to prohibit the flow of funds to and from organizations and individuals in Japan who are suspected of having relations to the development of North Korea’s weapons of mass destruction like nuclear weapons and missiles. The decision was put into effect immediately.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Shinzo Abe said in a press conference that 15 organizations and one individual related to North Korea would be affected by the decision.
