Chinese President Hu Jintao (right) and Nationalist Party Chairman Lien Chan agreed to work together to end “hostile relations for 60 years” between the two countries in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on April 29. The Lien-Hu meeting yesterday was the first between leaders of their parties since Nationalist dictator Chiang Kai-shek and communist guerrilla commander Mao Zedong held talks in 1945 in an attempt to create a national unity government.
