New book overviews history of Winter Olympics

A book on the history of the Winter Olympic Games has been released ahead of the opening of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

Eric Monnin, a professor at the University of Franche-Comté and an authoritative figure in the study of Olympic history, has released his book “From Chamonix to PyeongChang, a Century of Winter Olympics,” which overviews the everything about the winter Olympic games from the first event in Chamonix to the 23rd Winter Olympics to be held in the South Korean county in February 2018. The Korean-language edition has additional content on the Winter Olympics and Korea and star players in Winter Olympics.

Monin is a Besançon, France-born sports sociologist and historian. He once played as a judo athlete for France and won a Pierre de Coubertin medal awarded by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). He is serving as an advisor for the IOC and working for preparing the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics.

His book was translated into Korean by Kim Yong-chae, who earned his Ph.D. degree at University of Provence in France and supervised by Chang Jae-ok, a professor of law at Chung-Ang University.
