Samsung is starting efforts to assist research on materials for sensors and system software, which are core technology for the Internet of Things (IoT) industry.

Samsung Group singled out and announced on Monday 10 tasks in the field of smart sensor materials and system software as "2015 tasks for assistance under themes for development projects for the future. In the sensor materials field, five cases including the development of 3-dimensional full-color feeler sensor spearheaded by Prof. Lee Ji-seok at Ulsan University of Science and Technology were picked. The projects in the system software field eligible for assistance are five cases including the development of a structure for device-centered ultrahigh performance system. This project is spearheaded by Prof. Kim Jang-woo at POSTECH.

Samsung’s future technology development initiative is a program that seeks to promote future technologies by investing a total of 1.5 trillion won in research, including on the fields of basic science, materials technology, and ICT, for a total of 10 years from 2013. From August 2013 to now, a total of 160 projects were selected. In addition to the three fields, the program selected "designated themes" in new technology and future technology fields that are deemed essential for the advancement of national technology since last year.

Goh Geon, chair professor at Ewha Womans University who served as chairman of the review committee, said, “Various and innovative projects will be selected and give a big boost to the development of related industries going forward.”
