Jordan Spieth wins U.S. Open Championship

The gap between the winner and loser was just 120 centimeters. Putting decided the moment of joy and pain.

The hero of the 115th U.S. Open Championship was decided on the final day at the 18th hole (par-5). Co-leader Jordan Spieth hit his second shot on the par-5 18th to get the ball on the green, and although he missed the 4.8 meter eagle putt, he became the solo leader by one stroke with a tap-in buddy. Long hitter Dustin Johnson, who played in the next team, didn`t yield. With an explosive driver tee shot he sent the ball over 375 yards, he targeted 247 yards, shorter than Spieth by 37 yards, with a No. 5 iron to drop the ball on the 3.7 meter spot. Johnson could have won if it had been an eagle, and he could have tied with Spieth if it had been a buddy, which would allow him to compete in overtime at the 18th hole. However, John`s eagle putting grazed the cup and rolled 1.2 meters while buddy putt also missed the cup rolling to the left. Due to Johnson`s three putt, the winner was Spieth. Spieth also allowed pursuit as he made a tee shot mistake at the 17th hole (par 3) and double bogey with 3 putt, but held on to the lead with buddy at the last hole.

Spieth reduced one tee at the final round in this competition held in Chambers Bay golf course (par 70) in University Place, Washington, on Monday. In total, he had a five under par and 275 tees, beating Johnson and Louis Oosthuizen by one tee, and winning. Spieth won a consecutive major title following his win at the April Masters championships. He is the sixth golfer in 13 years after Tiger Woods in 2002 to conquer the Masters and U.S. Open in one year. He is also a two-time major winner under age 22 since Jean Sarasen in 1922.

Now much attention is on whether Spieth can grab all four major titles in one year to achieve "Calendar Grand Slam." He`ll challenge for his third straight win in major at the British Open to be held at the Old Course at St Andrews in Scotland on July 16.
