Fan uproar prompts Kia Tigers` manager to resign

A strange incident took place following an unusual renewal of contract.

Kia Tigers` manager Sun Dong-yeol (51) has resigned just six days following the renewal of his contract with Kia. Sun said through the Kia team management on Saturday, "After being reapproved for manager, I gave it much thought and decided that it would be the right thing to resign after taking responsibility for the sluggish performance of the past three years."

Kia renewed its contract with Sun on last Sunday at a total of 1 million U.S. dollars for the next two years. Sun had failed to lead its team to the semifinals for three consecutive years, and Kia had finished eighth for two consecutive years since last year, resulting in public censure of Sun for failing to generate good results.
