At the tip of arrows shot by Korean women athletes, the first world record was born in Incheon Asian Games. It was in the quarterfinals of the women`s compound archery team in 2014 Asian Games held at Gyeyang Asiad Archery Field in Incheon on Sep. 25. Korean team set a world record of 238 points beating Laos team (215 points). This is the first world record set by Korean athletes in the Asiad. This is also the first time that the Korean athletes broke a world record in the compound event for adults.
Korean archers were Choi Bo-min (30, Cheongwon County Office), Seok Ji-hyun (24, Hyundai Mobis) and Kim Yoon-hee (20, Hite Jinro). In the compound team event, three archers shoot 24 arrows in total, 8 arrows per each, at the distance of 50m and the points are added to decide the ranking. Korean team shot 10 points for 22 out of 24. The other 2 hit 9 points each. It was 2 points higher than the previous world record of 236 points set by the U.S. team in 2011.
With this result, Korean archery team became to hold 1 world record and 2 Asian records. In the compound event, Korean men and women teams advanced to the finals. Women team beat Iran in the semifinals with 229 versus 222. Korean mens compound team, Min Li-hong (23, Hyundai Steel), Choi Yong-hee (30, Hyundai Steel) and Yang Young-ho (19, Joongwon University), beat the Philippine team with 228 versus 227. The compound team final is slated on Saturday.
