The monetary value of Korea’s national brand ranks ninth among 39 major economies worldwide at 1.62 trillion U.S. dollars, a survey has found.

The Institute for Industrial Policy Studies on Tuesday announced the results of an assessment of brand value for countries, cities and companies in the 2012 Korea Brand Conference, which was held at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry in central Seoul.

The think tank calculated the value of brands by considering “psychological familiarity” in the poll of 2,000 people in 60 countries, and the export value of a country`s products and service and competitiveness indexes.

The U.S. topped the list with an estimated brand value of 12.18 trillion dollars. Germany ranked second with 7.39 trillion dollars, followed by Japan with 3.42 trillion dollars and China with 3.17 trillion dollars. In national brand value, Korea was ranked ahead of Italy (1.54 trillion dollars), Switzerland (1.116 trillion dollars) and Singapore (1.115 trillion dollars).
