2,000-year-old Wooden Grave

The Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation announces Friday the discovery of a wooden grave assumed to be that of a high-ranking government official from the first century at a housing construction site in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province. A bronze sword with a lacquered sheath (left on the dotted line), an iron sword (right on the dotted line), a ornament for a sheath (small picture), a bronze bracelet, a lacquered fan to hide the corpse’s face, a frog-shaped bronze button, and a tiger-shaped waste loop were excavated. These artifacts indicate that the grave`s owner was one of the founding fathers of the ancient Korean kingdom of Shilla in the first century.
