Labor Objects to Economics Textbook

The labor sector is strongly objecting to an economics textbook co-developed by the Ministry of Education and Human Resources and the Federation of Korean Industries.

On February 16, the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions argued that the economics textbook to be distributed in schools starting in March be thrown away immediately, saying, “We will propose a motion that the Ministry of Education develop a new textbook with the labor section corrected.”

KCTU Spokesperson Woo Moon-sook said, “We are concerned the textbook developed by the FKI will present a distorted image of the labor sector. If the textbook is not discarded and a new one is not developed, we will submit a request for a provisional disposition in court.”

The Ministry of Education decided to drop its name from the textbook cover on February 13 after the labor sector expressed its objection to the economics textbook, which was made public on February 12.
