On August 15, civic groups held a demonstration in front of the Japanese Embassy in Jongno-gu, Seoul in commemoration of August 15 Liberation Day. The participants are burning a photo of Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi. Earlier, Prime Minister Koizumi, dressed in a black tailcoat, visited Yasukuni Shrine to mark the anniversary of Japan’s World War II surrender despite strong protests from neighboring countries.
