17. Japan Resumes U.S. Beef Ban

Japan imposed a ban on U.S. beef imports again on January 21, after cattle spinal cords, considered to be a mad cow disease risk, were discovered in a shipment of imported beef.

The ban comes six weeks after the lifting of a previous ban on U.S. beef.

Supermarket employees at a store in Tokyo were seen taking U.S. beef off the shelves.

However, the Korean Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry said yesterday that Korea is not changing its current stance after lifting its own ban on U.S beef in early April.
