Korea Takes Five Golds in Taekwondo

Nam Jin-ah (Hyosung High School) and Yoo Young-dae (Korea National Sport University) became champions at the first Korea Open International Taekwondo Championships.

Nam Jin-ah, the winner of the Asian Junior Championships held in Almaty, Kazakhstan last month, took the gold on September 5 in the Olympic Weight Category women’s under-49 kg finals held at the Olympic Gymnasium II at Olympic Park in Seoul, overcoming Sara Coshi Jamal Pekri (Iran) 9-1.

She tied against Yoo Eun-young (Korea National Sport University) without scoring any points in the semi-finals but advanced to the finals when Yoo Eun-young was deducted points. In the finals she showed dominance in skills, eventually rising to the top.

In the men’s under-58 kg division, Yoo Young-dae became the champion with a second round TKO victory over Beitirvek Yestabletov (Kazakhstan).

Meanwhile, Kim Jae-bong (under-54 kg, Yongin University) and Park Myung-sook (47kg, Songgok Information Industrial Girls High School) each took the gold in the World Championships Weight Category division, and Sung Hee-young (63 kg, Kyunghee University) won the gold in the women’s light division.
