Sankei Shimbun reported on August 24 that the U.S. and Japanese governments are planning to propose to Korea and the EU to scrap the North Korea light water reactor project at the board meeting of the Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organization (KEDO) which is scheduled to be held in October.

The Japanese newspaper also said that the two countries plan to pressure North Korea to renounce completely its nuclear program by taking a strong stance and proposing to cancel the light water reactor project at the next round of the six-party talks.
