Audit of National Tax Service Is Not For Punishment

The National Tax Service (NTS) announced yesterday that it has been undergoing a “special audit for task” from the Bureau of Audit and Inspection (BAI) starting from last Thursday. This audit started from the Jungbu Regional Tax Office.

Heo Byeong-ick, director of the audit department of the NTS said, “This special audit is not because of wrongdoing on the part of the NTS, but just a special audit to inspect how much tax was levied in unlawful unearned incomes, inheritance, and donations. We have never heard that the BAI has found cases that we wrongly calculated taxes in its preliminary inspection. I think it is a result of misunderstanding an emphasis on thorough investigation through audits.” He also added, “Since it started just a couple of days ago, I don’t think it is proper time to discuss such issues.”
