List of 1,400 Tax Delinquents To Be Made Public in September

The number of those who have been delinquent in large tax payments, which will be made public for the first time in September, is expected to reach 1,400 or more.

According to the National Tax Service (NTS), it notified 1,506 who failed to pay taxes of more than one billion won for the past two straight years of their taxes in arrears last March and asked them to pay those taxes or to submit a written explanation, but so far only 92 people have presented a written explanation. Those who fail to submit a written explanation by August will be put on the list which will be made public.

It was reported that the majority of those who presented a written explanation appealed for an amicable dealing and defended themselves by saying that they have no property under the name of their own or no income.

The NTS will inquire into the facts of these submitted documents and confirm the list of delinquent taxpayers around September after the deadline of written explanations through the review of a screening committee.

The names, addresses and occupations of delinquent taxpayers on the list will be listed in the official gazette and the bulletin board of the tax office concerned.

Among delinquent taxpayers who failed to pay taxes of more than one billion won for the last two years in a row, those who are going through a procedure for objection to taxation or who pay more than thirty percent of taxes in arrears, including additional dues, will not be put on the list to be made public.
