President Roh Moo-hyun informally arranged Chun Yun-cheol (64 years old), the previous Deputy Prime Minister of Economy, as a candidate for the new chairman position on the Board of Audit and Inspection of Korea on October 10.
Presidential spokesman Yoon Tai-young said, Because Chun framed and carried important nationwide policies and because he lead the public reformation, he is judged as the right man for leading reformation in inspections, such as policy evaluation.
It is the first time that a person from an economic bureaucracy has been informally arranged as a candidate for the new chairman on the Board of Audit and Inspection of Korea. Chuns candidacy as a chairman on the Board of Audit and Inspection of Korea will be determined through a personnel hearing and consent to appointment of the Assembly plenary session, which will be held either late this month or early next month. Chun filled the Chief Presidential Secretary, Deputy Prime Minister and concurrently Minister of Finance and Economy, Minister of Planning and Budget, and Chairman of the Korea Fair Trade Commission under the Kim Dae-jung government, and he has taken charge of the named endowed chair in Chodang University in Mokpo and in Cheju University since the launching of the new government.
