The Japanese daily Mainich Shimbun reported on July 23 that the government found high density of a carcinogenic substance in Chinese diet aids. The diet drugs have caused serious liver damage, and the number of victims is still increasing.

The Japanese Ministry of Health said that it found 3% of ‘Nitro Fenfluramine’ from three Chinese-made diet aids such as Eojidang, Seomjiso and Chasogambi. The daily paper explained that the substance is composed of appetite-depressant Fenfluramine and cancer-causing chemical ‘Nitro.’

The Ministry will further study whether the substance is directly related to liver failures. According to the local daily, the number of diet drug victims now reaches 242 including 4 deaths.
