2.86 million pyong is likely to be prepared for distribution complexes nationwide by 2006, where cargo terminals and wholesale markets for agricultural and fishery products will be placed.
According to the `second comprehensive development plan for distribution complex`, which the Ministry of Construction and Transportation (MCT) announced on the 24th, it will provide total 2.86 pyong (9.45 million sq. m) of land in 5 metropolitan cities except Seoul and Daejeon, and 7 provinces like Kyonngi-do from this year by 2006. The MCT will decide and announce the final plan after discussing the issue with related departments, cities and provinces till the end of next month in order to develop the distribution complexes that can meet regional needs.
By regions, the land which will provided for distribution complexes is 570,000 pyong in Seoul, 150,000 in Incheon, 620,000 in Kyonggi, 170,000 in Busan, 90,000 in Chungnam, 180,000 in Cheonbuk, 70,000 in Gwangju, 150,000 in Cheonnam, 140,000 in Daegu, 290,000 in Gyeongbuk, 60,000 in Ulsan and 280,000 in Gyeongnam.
After decision of the general plan, respective local government will designate the site and develop it.
There will be placed the facilities for distribution like cargo terminals, inland container bases and collecting and delivering centers, and those for commercial like wholesale and retail centers, wholesale markets for agricultural and fishery products and joint markets, and those for supporting like banks, hospitals and educational institutes.
Yim Joo-Bin chief of distribution facilities department in the MCT said, "total 367 million pyong nationwide has been provided so far for distribution complexes including the 810,000 pyong which was designated for distribution complexes in the 1st development plan in last year."
