`Woman power` is on a rise even in the three Military Academies which have traditionally been known as the world of men. In the selection of freshmen in the Academies of Navy and Air Force, female students were the top admittances, with exception to the Korea Military Academy (KMA). It was for the first time since these Academies were founded that women students were on top.

According to the announcement of the Ministry of National Defense (MND) on 7th, Kim Tae-Seung (19), Taereung High school graduate, received the honor of the top honors in Korea Military Academy. And Kang Kyung (19), attending Yongnam High school in Nonsan Chungnam, received the top honors in Korea Navy Academy (KNA), and Hwang Eun-Jung (18), attending Hyundai Chungwoon High school in Ulsan in the Korea Air Force Academy (KAFA).

Kang`s father, a graduate from the Korea Navy Academy, is an active lieutenant colonel in Navy, which is a new record as father and daughter alumni.

An officer of MND said, "Though the exact score is not open to the public, the average score of female students admitted was higher than that of male students." Since KAFA opened the door to women in 1996, KMA in 1997 and KNA in 1998 have opened one after another, and MND assigned 10 percent of the full quota to women applicants.
