The conflict between the party and the Cheong Wa Dae revolving around the
remaining of Prime Minister Lee Han-Dong and the appointment of the
Chief Presidential Secretary Han Gwang-Ok as the representative of the
Democratic Party continues.
Kim Guen-Tae, the chief member of the Democratic Party held a press meeting on the 9th in which he made three demands: △ the voluntary resignation of the persons either appointed or remaining in office △ the dissolution of specific genealogy that dominates the party, and △ the postponement of the party`s executive committee meeting on the 10th for the affirmation of the party representative.
He also stated that, ``Should the party`s executive committee meeting proceed as planned, I will request anonymous secret voting in order to prevent the passing of the affirmation proposal for the representative nominee Han Gwang-Ok.``
Chief member Jung Dae-Chul also pointed out in the press meeting that ``it would be difficult to achieve not only the cooperation between the Ruling party and the Opposition party but also constructive politics.`` and that ``as a result the responsibility lies with the President along with his aides.``
Nine members of `Dawn 21`, a gathering of newly elected members, also met to urge the postponement of the party`s executive committee meeting by stating that ``the only solution rests in the voluntary resignation of Han who has been informally designated as the party`s representative.`` During this meeting, however, members Kim Sung-Ho, Lee Ho-Woong, and Jung Bum-Gu officially withdrew from their former policy of possible secession from the party.
Prior to this meeting, an urgent meeting among the chief members of the Democratic party was held on the 8th, in which surfaced conflicting views between the party that advocated the acceptance of President Kim Dae-Jung`s reorganization policy on the one hand, and the party that called for a reconsideration of such policy, on the other.
Spokesperson Jun Yong-Hak stated in the briefing after the meeting, ``All the opinions expressed in this meeting will be organized using recorded notes by representative Kim Joong-Gwon, who will faithfully convey them to the Blue House.``
Spokesperson Jun also stated that in the meantime, President Kim returned the letters of resignation to Kim Won-Ki, Kim Ki-Jae, Shin Nak-Gyun, and JangEul-Byung, all of those who had been designated as chief members.
