20th Birthday Commemoration Performance by Inchon Metropolitan City Dance Theater

Inchon Metropolitan City Dance Theater (Art Director: Han Myung-Ock) performs ``Momjit (Motion)``, a performance which celebrates the theater’s 20th birthday, from 15th at the Inchon Multi Culture and Arts Center.

The theater which was founded in 1981 had 44 regular performances and about 300 traditional performances after they staged the first performance of the `guleya guleya`.

For this event, they will play their best four works among their previous performances. After the opening performance `Beat!`, `Gaetmaul`, `Father’s Notebook`, and `Bari` will follow.

`Beat!`, choreographed by Han Myung-Ock, is a stage in which dancing and drum beating are combined. Besides the dancers, 12 drum beaters will participate and let the audiences hear the majestic sound of drums.

`Gaetmaul` is a work for which the first artistic director and choreographer Lee Young-Hee has continued to revise with a deep sense of attachment. It begins with a festival scene in which the joy of a ship-full of fishery is celebrated. In this stage, the order of nature symbolized by the sea is expressed.

`Father’s Notebook` (choreographed by third artistic director Lee Chung-Ja) caresses the wound of Korean modern history through the life of Young-Sik, a musician who plays the background music at a silent-movie theater.

And `Bari` (choreographed by fourth director Kim Young-Sook), a work created in year 2000, is about the traditional `baridegy` tale in which the image of Inchon City’s bird, crane, and its flower rose, is used.

The artistic director Han Myung-Ock said ``the feature of this stage is to show a modern dance based on our traditional dance.`` ``We will established this performance as a representative repertoire of our theater.``

Jeon Kyung-Ae, Song Sung-Ju, Yun Soon-Ja, and Choi Gong-Ju will take part in the performance. Admission fee : 3,000 ~ 5,000 won. Schedule: 7:30 pm on 15th, 5 pm on 16th. (032-438-7774).
