U.S. air crew arrive in Guam

The 24 crew members of the U. S. spy plane, who were detained in Hainan Island of China for 12 days, arrived in Guam around 1 p. m. Thursday.

The crew members who arrived at the U. S. Anderson military air base by a Boeing 737 flight of the Continental Airlines, talked over telephone with their families and had meals. After staying there for several hours, they are to fly in Pearl Harbor Naval Base in Hawaii via a military C-17, a passenger cargo plane.

In the morning, the U. S. crew left the Hainan Island. After landing at the airport, they were received by American military officials and left there aboard three buses.

Until their returning to Whidbey Island, Wash., the crew members will stay in the Pearl Harbor Naval Base for two days to brief on the collision accident and their custody in the Chinese island.

Shirley Crandall, stepmother of Navy Seaman Jeremy Crandall, from her home in Loves Park, Ill., said in meeting with his son, ``My heart is just pounding.``

A White House spokesman disclosed that a group of experts including medical doctors and intelligence officers would be sent to check the crew`s psychological and mental conditions, so as to find out the true picture of the air incident.
