The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education said Tuesday that the Kent Foreign School admitted a total of 37 unqualified students, 25 that are currently enrolled at the school as well as five graduates and seven dropouts. The office conducted a special investigation of the school in connection with a scandal involving the special admission of children of Koreans who are living or once lived abroad.
Eligible for entrance into any foreign school in Korea are those who have foreign citizenship or permanent overseas resident status, along with those who have lived abroad for five years or longer.
``We ordered Kent school authorities to expel 25 current students and suspend the recruitment of freshmen for one year, taking into consideration that students from 16 countries now attend the school,`` an official said.
The office also served a warning against the founder and manager of the school and demanded the principal be harshly disciplined.
