[From readers] Bank window lines are confusing

I visited a local bank one day toward the end of the last year. The hall was overcrowded because it was the year¡¯s end, and some of the bank employees walked out on strike.

I lined up in front of the automated teller machine and waited for some time. Many people were waiting in line in front of all the machines. Even if some of them had come to the bank earlier, they might take the money out later than the ones who came after them, in case they stood in the wrong line. Complaints from impatient customers were being heard here and there that they were delayed because they got into the wrong line.

What bothered us more was that a few of them stepped beyond the waiting line into the machine booth closer to the ones who were using the machines. It could make it difficult to keep the secret numbers of individual customers.

In order for all customers to do their business in good order by turns and keep their secret numbers secure, I believe all the visitors need to form and wait in a single queue at the bank.
