The government has conducted a shakeup of some major diplomatic posts, including the appointment of Minister for Trade Han Duck-Soo as ambassador to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
In the reshuffle, Deputy Foreign Affairs-Trade Minister Jang Jai-Ryong was designated as ambassador to France.
The government also has decided to name Yim Sung-Joon, the chief planner of the third Asia-Europe Meeting, which was held in Seoul in October, as deputy foreign affairs-trade minister.
Chung Eui-Yong, deputy trade minister, was chosen as ambassador to Geneva, and Choi Hyuck, former minister at the Korean Embassy to the United States, as Chung`s successor.
The newly designated diplomats will be formally appointed early next year following the pertinent procedures.
