¡°Last Empress¡± to be staged again in Seoul

The ¡°Last Empress,¡¯¡¯ a Korean musical that was staged on Broadway, will begin another run in Seoul on Dec. 29.

Producers of the musical, directed by Yoo Ho-Jin, are also promoting performances in Britain and Japan.

Since its premiere in 1995, the musical was staged 305 times, attracting about 400,000 spectators.

Lee Tae-Won, Kim Hyun-Joo and Kim Ji-Hyun share the role of Empress Myungsung. Kim Hyun-Joo is a top mezzo-soprano who has performed in about 30 operas including "Simchong¡¯¡¯ and "Rigoletto.¡¯¡¯

Kim Ji-Hyun, a graduate of the vocal music department of Hanyang University, has a unique career which has included singing for commercial films and movies.

The role of Hong Kye-Hoon, a court official, is shared by Kim Min-Soo and Im Choon-Gil, and Yoo Hi-Sung and Cho Seung-Woo will play King Kojong. Kim Sung-Kee will take the role of Miura.

The show will continue through Jan. 18 in the Opera Theater at Seoul Arts Center. Show times are 7:30 p.m. on weekdays, and 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Sundays. Ticket prices range from 20,000 to 70,000 won. For further information, call (82)-2-1588-7890.
