Hidink signs contract as new Korean national team coach

Guus Hidink of the Netherlands, 54, signed a contract to become head coach of the Korean national soccer team at the Korean Football Association (KFA) building in Sinmunno, downtown Seoul, Monday.

Details of the contract, including his salary, were not made public, but KFA sources said the figure exceeds $1 million, making it the most lucrative contract ever for the coach of the Korean national soccer team.

In a press conference after signing the contract, Hidink said he would make efforts to lead the national team to success at the 2002 World Cup by making the most of the Korean people¡¯s support, KFA aid and the advantage of home ground.
