The members of the opposition Grand National Party's special investigative committee on power-related scandals visited the Seoul District Prosecutor's Office on Friday and demanded its investigation into the allegations that a senior official of the National Intelligence Service had acted for protecting Jin Seung-Hyon, president of MCI Korea, who was arrested in connection to an illegal loan scam.

Contending that the existence of the widely rumored behind-the-scenes force covering the venture businessman was bared, the GNP lawmakers asked the prosecution to conduct thorough probes into Jin's lobbying scandal involving government officials and politicians. They said that the prosecution must not mislead the case with the explanation that NIS deputy director Kim Eun-Sung's inquiry into Jin's scandal was merely concerned with his routine investigation activity.

Meanwhile, a related official of the Supreme Prosecutor's Office disclosed that Kim wanted to know the background of MCI president Jin in connection with Kim's daughter's marriage proposal with Jin, adding that when Kim was briefed about the probe process regarding Jin, Kim seemed to be giving up the proposed marriage.
