The Special Anti-Corruption Committee under the direct control of the President said Tuesday that it plans to establish a ¡°code of conduct¡± for public post-holders in order to regain the public¡¯s trust in officialdom.

An official of the committee noted that the Basic Law on the Prevention of Corruption presented by the ruling Millennium Democratic Party (MDP) to the National Assembly provides that a code of conduct shall be enacted for officials. He added that the committee will swiftly enact the code of conduct as soon as the bill passes through the Assembly.

To prepare the draft code of conduct, the committee has embarked on an effort to collect public opinion. As an initial step, it held a symposium on the theme of the ¡°necessity and direction of the enactment of the code of conduct for officials.¡±

Panelists in the forum suggested as the three major points of the envisioned code of conduct faithful and fair performance of duties, rejection of improper profits and gifts and a healthy private life.
