Officials of South and North Korea, with officials of the Korea Newspaper Association attending, agreed that Seoul will send to the North five copies each of 10 vernacular newspapers, including the Dong-A Ilbo, and four economic dailies, 70 copies in total, beginning Oct. 2, the Unification Ministry disclosed Wednesday.
The related ministry officials said that the newspapers will be sent to the North via the liaison offices in the truce village of Panmunjeom every day, except for Sundays, the day the liaison offices take off as a holiday. As Oct. 1 is Sunday, the papers will be delivered the next day, Oct. 2, the officials said. The delivery of the dailies is in line with North Korean Defense Commission Chairman Kim Jong-Il 's request made during his meeting with the presidents of the newspapers and broadcasting stations in August.
