President Kim Dae-Jung will visit Japan for two days on Sept. 22 with First Lady Lee Hee-Ho and hold summit talks with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori. He is scheduled to have two rounds of talks with the Japanese premier at the hot spring resort of Atami on Sept. 23 and 24. The leaders of the two countries are expected to exchange views on the mutual cooperation in association with the situational changes in Korea following the inter-Korean summit as well as measures for expanding economic and cultural exchanges and cooperation between the two nations.

At the coming talks, President Kim will ask for a continued Japanese support for the Seoul government on the basis of the thorough three-way coordination involving Seoul, Tokyo and Washington, especially with regard to the fast developing inter-Korean relations. He is also expected to emphasize a need for the improvement of relations between Tokyo and Pyongyang as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, Kim plans to induce a total of $ 7 billion of Japanese investment in Korea for the coming two years with the parts manufacturing industries in the main. He also plans to conclude the Korea-Japan mutual investment pact within the year. At the same time, they will adopt a declaration on the information technology (IT) cooperation initiative.
