Global Peace Day event starts in Seoul

A ceremony and two-day scientific conference begins Tuesday in commemoration of the 19th UN International Day of Peace at Hotel Lotte and the Peace Hall of Kyung Hee University in Seoul. The event was organized by United Nations Association of Korea, International Association of University Presidents (IAUP), Kyung Hee University and Global Cooperation Society Club International (GCS).

The event, which is sponsored by Dong-A Ilbo, will be held under the themes ¡°Global Governance in the 21st Century,¡± and ¡°A Plan for Reconstruction of Human Society in the New Millennium.¡± It will feature various matters, dealing with UN's role for solutions to various problems that humanity will face in the 21st century and for studying ways to realize a human-oriented society.

A total of nearly 900 dignitaries from around the world will participate in the event, including Choue Young-Seek, honorary chairman of the IAUP, former Italian President Oscar Luigi Scalfaro, and Saul Mendlovitz, chairman of the committee of World Order Models.
