According to a report in the Washington Times, the U.S. Air Force is deploying many Cruise missiles on Guam. The new deployment reportedly marks the first time that air launched cruise missiles have been permanently based outside the U.S. mainland.

U.S. Department of Defense officials reportedly said that the missile deployment will increase U.S. air strike capability in the event of a crisis on the Korean Peninsula or in the Gulf region.

Carl Heinze, spokesman for the U.S. Air Force Pacific Command in Hawaii, reported that the Air Force has been working to increase long-range air strike capability from Anderson Air Force Base in Guam over the last two years. He added that the Guam base is the ideal strategic point for operations in the Asian Pacific region.
