Visitors to the Unification Observatory on Mt. Odu overlooking the sites of the national division exceeded the 1 million mark as of July 27.

The milestone record was established eight years after the facility at the Freedom Roadside in the estuary of the Imjin River in Paju City, Kyonggi Province opened in September 1992.

Operators of the observatory post said Sunday that of the 1 million visitors, 570,000 were foreign tourists.

They recently opened the North Korea Experience Room, in which the living room of an ordinary North Korean resident and the classroom of a People`s School are recreated amid the latest South-North Korean reconciliation mood.

They also set up a new corner in the Unification Exhibition Room where visitors can trace the efforts for national reunification with the June 15 South-North summit being the latest one.

In the existing North Korean Exhibition Room, about 400 photographs and items are displayed so that visitors can look into the North Korean people`s way of living, including education, love and marriage, and wage earners` daily lives.
