Hankook Tire will supply tires for Model 3, Tesla’s new model released in March.

According to the automobile industry on Thursday, Tesla selected Hankook Tire as a tire supplier for Model 3. The U.S. electric car company tested tire samples from global companies and selected the Korean auto parts manufacturer.

Hankook Tire reportedly signed a supply agreement for OE tires at Tesla’s head office in Los Angeles. Tires for electric cars require advanced technologies as they should be lighter and have less rolling resistance than general tires.

The tires to be supplied to Tesla are most likely to be produced in Hankook Tire’s factory in Tennessee, the U.S.

Model 3 will use other parts made in Korea, aside from tires. Hanon Systems, an auto parts maker, will supply system modules, while LG Display 15-inch touchscreens to be installed in the center of the front seats for the new electric car model.
