Seoul Metro, operator of Seoul Subway Lines 1 – 8, will participate in construction of urban railway in Da Nang, Vietnam. This will be the first city railway built in Da Nang.

Seoul Metro said on Wednesday it signed a memorandum of understanding on construction of urban railway and establishment of transportation system with Da Nang’s City Transportation Department at a conference room of People's Committee of Da Nang on Tuesday. The two agencies have agreed to cooperate in order to construct urban railway, upgrade transportation system and develop system operation, maintenance and repair plans. Seoul Metro CEO Kim Tae-ho and Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, vice-chairman of Da Nang's governing people's committee, attended the signing ceremony.

“This will be an opportunity to improve Seoul Metro’s foothold in Da Nang to win a tender for operation of urban railway in the city where foreign investments have not been made, and Seoul Metro can also promote superior performance of urban railway of Seoul,” Seoul Metro said.

Seoul Metro accepted a request for advice in 2015 on choosing a suitable subway line for public-private joint investment in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, and performed a feasibility survey on the subway line 4 in Ho Chi Minh last year.
