The 14th Asian Games marked for the regional vision of peace and unity for 3.7 billion Asians ended its 16-day run on Oct. 16.

This year`s event, the second Asian Games hosted by the country following the 1986 Seoul Asiad, was the largest in scale, with 44 Olympic Committee of Asia (OCA) member countries participating, including the world`s newest nation East Timor, which was an observer for these games.

A total of 1,350 medals were awarded. China won 308 including 150 gold, ahead of South Korea with 260-96 golds, 80 silvers and 84 bronzes. Attending for the first time an international sporting event held in the South, North Korea won 9 gold, 11 sliver and 13 bronze medals.

Total 22 new world records were set during the games, and Chinese Sui Yen Wei snatched five gold medals in women`s swimming.
