Omega will continue to be the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games in PyeongChang, which are due to begin on Feb. 9. The Swiss watchmaker will have been playing the role on 28 occasions since the Los Angeles Olympics in 1932.

In major stadiums for speed skating, skiing and short track skating at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics, Omega introduces its Scan 'O' Vision Myria photo finish camera, which can take up to 10,000 images every second. To ensure flawless timing, Omega uses its timekeeping technology called Quantum Timer, accurate to one millionth (1/1,000,000) of a second, or microsecond.

Believing that it has now at the forefront of measurement technology, the watchmaker explained that it would open “New Horizons,” which was PyeongChang’s bid slogan.

In an e-mail interview with The Dong-A Ilbo ahead of the official announcement at the end of this month, Alain Zobrist, CEO of Omega Timing, said Omega will provide visual information in real time with its new concept timekeeping technologies at the PyeongChang Olympic Games. This will allow the audience to be more immersed in the games and the world’s best athletes to analyze their performance accurately. Accumulated data will be a great help for analyzing the strength and weakness of the athletes and enhancing performance.
