“Shinzo is strong," U.S. President Donald Trump said to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe sitting next to him at a luncheon hosted by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres at the United Nations headquarters in New York on Tuesday (local time). President Trump asked for cooperation to stop North Korea’s provocations, saying, “We need power to confront with North Korea. Shinzo is strong.” The seating was arranged at the request of President Trump, a source accompanied Prime Minister Abe said to the newspaper.

The two leaders discussed North Korea’s situation, the abductee issue and President Trump’s visit to Japan scheduled in early November. President Trump told Prime Minister Abe, “North Korea’s remark is unusual. As he is not an easy man, I used strong words at the UN General Assembly speech," and Prime Minister Abe said, “The (Trump’s) strong message that all options are on table made China and Russia cooperative (with the resolution.).”

The New York Times said on Wednesday, “Japan supported Trump’s stance towards North Korea.” The Los Angeles Times said, “If Japan has any qualms about President Trump’s confrontational rhetoric toward North Korea, its leader isn’t letting on.
