Samsung Electronics will release an 88-inch QLED TV as it aims to differentiate itself from rivals with ultra-large TVs. Samsung said Wednesday it will be rolling out these TVs in Korea and the U.S. from this month and in major markets including Southeast Asia afterwards. Price starts from 33 million won (29,360 dollars), more than three-fold the 10.40 million won (9,253 dollars) 75-inch QLED TVs, the largest among existing Samsung TVs.

By rolling out TVs larger than 50-60-inch ones that Samsung had previously marketed as premium TVs, Samsung is aiming to raise the market barrier with latecomers including Chinese manufacturers fast catching up. The strategy to lower price of 50- to 60-inch TVs is not enough to stay ahead of Chinese companies," a source from the electronics industry said. "With more UHD contents such as Netflix contents being offered, Samsung is betting that it can go for ultra-large TVs."

Samsung's QLED TVs are based on the quantum dot display technology and can display color volume 100 percent. Color volume is some new screen color criteria that can accurately measure minute color changes, meaning that Samsung can display natural color as the technology allows no color loss or blotch.
