Cody Bellinger becomes 1st Dodgers rookie to hit for cycle

Cody Bellinger (22) of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the U.S. Major League Baseball has become a rookie player who hit a cycling hit (a batter hitting one-base hit, two-base hit, three-base hit, and homer in a single game) for the first time in the team’s history.

Bellinger took the batter’s box as cleanup hitter in the game against the Miami Marlins on Saturday local time and had one-base hit in the first inning, two-run homer in the third inning, two-base hit in the fourth inning, and three-base hit in the seventh inning to set the record in four times at bat. The Dodgers won 7-1 to enjoy an eight-game winning streak.

 

Bellinger has become the sixth youngest ever to record a cycling hit in the Major League history. By hitting the cycling hit in the 72nd game, he also became the batter to achieve the milestone in the second fewest games one has played in the Major League after Fred Lewis of the San Francisco Giants who set the record (16 games) in 2007. Bellinger’s cycling hit is the ninth in the history of the Dodgers after the Orlando Hudson in 2009.
